Pumpkin( 南瓜)carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. My dadhas a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantage — I carried an 85-pounder back last year.
This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother, Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with my momfilming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought forcing my headinside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time.
With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, my nosebriefly prevented entry. Finally I managedto put my whole head into it, like a cork ( 软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders.
My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I said, and with Jason helping to supportits weight, I bent back over the table to give it somewhere to rest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When I pulledhard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space.
注意:

Paragraph 1
I was stuck for five or six minutes though it felt much longer .
Paragraph 2
That video was posted the day before Halloween .
I was stuck for five or six minutes though it felt much longer. My head span dizzily as if the world swirled. At my wit's end, I felt a stab of fear. (“ 我”的情绪:慌张、无奈)“Don't panic! Papa, Papa, we need your help," Jason exclaimed. In time over came my father.(借助外界帮助)He embraced my neck and pulled back with strength while Jason pinned/pressed down the pumpkin.(一系列动作描写)It didn't work, though. (问题未解决)“Why not tear the pumpkin directly?" suddenly rang out mother's voice. ( 新 想 法) In a split second, a creak broke out overhead, followed by a ray of light, which I seemingly hadn't seen for ages. (问题得到解决)But what did I see? My mother was filming all the way.
That video was posted online the Monday before Halloween. To my surprise, soon my video was followed by a sea of likes, my mailbox flooded with similar stories. ( 衔接句)My big red nose and my sore chin became netizens' favorite topic. A little embarrassed as I was, a wave of warmth welled up inside. (细节描写之我的心情)Then a good idea flashed across my mind. (想法)“Isn't it a good idea to share stories online to choose the funniest? " I told Jason, jumping with joy.(做法,为结局做铺垫)“Amazing! Let's call it Pumpkin's Competition. "Jason giggled.
Joy welled up inside her.
well 做名词时有“水井”的意思,up是“向上”的意思,想象一下,水井向上,不就是涌起吗~· She wore a shining smile on her face.
Fear slowly creeps upon her.
I felt a smile creep upon my face.· At the sight of the ferocious wolf, I froze with terror, too scared to move an inch.
freeze-froze-frozen 冻结too...to...太……
His anger boiled over.
Racial tension finally boiled over in theinner city riots. · He was fuming with rage.
Fuming with rage, Hung said, " How doyou know I bully her?"
Hearing the news, so desperate was he that he drowned sadness in wine.
借酒消愁drown sadness in wine· They were immersed in sorrow.
be immersed in 沉浸于
· He took a firm grip of my arm and marched me towards the door.

The car abruptly stopped in front of him."Get into the car." Paul shouted at Mac. Mac jumped off the bike andslid into the car without delay as the wolf was just two steps away and wasabout to tear Mac into pieces. What a narrow escape!
But before we jumped off the horses, wefound that we had been off the beaten track and got lost. We had no idea wherewe were and it got dark. Exhausted and hungry, I wondered if we could find ourway back.
